My husband and I were flying from Heathrow to Bangkok, with Thai Airways, and from there getting a connecting flight onto Cambodia. We checked in, made our way to the departure gate and boarded the plane, we were due to take off at 9AM but ended up sitting on the plane for three hours.

We had been told there was a technical problem but were only told later that the problem was with the fuel pump. At this point we were given a sandwich. Then they announced that we would have to get have to get off the plane and that this flight was cancelled.

We made our way back to the Terminal to try to find out when we would be travelling. Eventually we found the Thai Airways desk, there was one member of staff and about 30 of us waiting to get information.

At this point we were told that our replacement flight would be on the following day. A while later we found someone else, a little more helpful, and they managed to get us seats on a plane leaving at 5PM that same day, but we would have to go to the carousel area and collect our luggage from there.

We eventually arrived in Bangkok only to find that an available flight on to Cambodia had also been delayed for 3 hours, luckily there was somewhere to sit and grab a coffee while we waited.

We had a nice few days in Cambodia and then travelled on to Thailand. As we had managed to get on a later departure flight from Heathrow, we did not go on the “official” replacement fight, our return flights had been cancelled as it was showing that we missed the outbound flight! There were also many other problems with our holiday so we went back to the travel agent on our return to the UK to make a complaint.

The travel agent actually dealt with our flight delay compensation claim, they submitted the flight information on the Air Delay website for us. Within 6 weeks our compensation cheques arrived in the post, one for €800 and I forget the exact amount of the other. We will be spending this on our next holiday, probably to Sicily.

Air Delay were so quick at claiming our compensation I would definitely recommend them to anyone who has experienced a flight delay.
