I was returning from a meeting in Newcastle, travelling with easyJet from Newcastle to Belfast. My booking was for the last flight of the day, at 9PM. While waiting at the boarding gate there was an announcement that the flight was going to be delayed, we then waited for some time before we received any additional information from easyJet.
They eventually told us that there was a mechanical problem with the plane, later still they told us we would have to get a flight at 6.30 AM the following morning….. from Edinburgh. Another passenger told me he heard, that the pilot would have exceed his hours during this flight. easyJet were not very forthcoming with any information at all, so I am not really sure what caused the delay.
Taxis were organized to take us on the 120-mile trip from Newcastle to Edinburgh! We did not get hotel accommodation, even though it was the middle of the night, just had to hang around in the terminal building. They did give us a refreshment voucher though – just enough to get a cup of coffee at airport prices, I can’t remember the exact amount but it was under a fiver! At 6.30 AM we finally took off from Edinburgh. The nine and a half hour delay caused me to miss an appointment the following day, not to mention being very tired after not getting any sleep.
I saw an advert on online, nearly a year later, about being able to claim compensation from airlines for flight delays of three hours or more. A quick search on Google, a few days later, and I found Air Delay. The website was so easy to use, I received regular email updates right up until I received my compensation cheque in the post. I would definitely use Airdelay.co.uk again and would not hesitate to recommend them to others.
I got around £200 compensation – it is still sat in the bank, I have not decided how to spend it yet!
